Play handball for kids who need a hand-up.
This October, we’re challenging students in schools across New Zealand to play as much handball (A.K.A four square) as they can, to raise money for kids who need a hand-up.
With you on our team, we’re aiming to raise $1 million to support 10,000 children with food, solid shoes and a warm jacket. Help us level the playing field so every child can focus on learning.
What is KidsCanBall?
KidsCanBall was created by our ambassador Jordan Watson – How to DAD, who wanted a fun way to raise money for kids in need. Last year he challenged his mates Jono and Ben from The Hits to play handball against him for 24-hours straight. It was a brutal test of body and mind, but they made it to the final whistle, raising an incredible $475,000 for KidsCan.
This year they’re crazy enough to try again – and their goal is even bigger! That’s where you come in. We’re not asking you to play for 24 hours in a row (that’s crazy!) but we’d love your students to join the challenge and play as much handball as they can across October.
Why should your school participate?
- Your students love handball already – it's fun, easy to play, inclusive, and great exercise
- Games can be any length, at any time – during breaks, or incorporated into PE lessons
- It’s easy to take part through our fundraising platform
- Students sign up, set a goal and challenge themselves to get active
- They earn badges as they achieve targets, and there are prizes for the most minutes played, and the most funds raised
- Most importantly, students learn how to help other students who need support
- They’ll see the impact – we’ll share the difference their donation makes to a child in poverty

Every school that registers before 31 July 2025 will go in the draw to win an awesome experience with The Hits. You’ll have the chance to take a class to your local radio studio for a special tour, where they’ll meet the presenters and take part in a recording (Available in 9 locations nationwide).

The impact you’ll make.
KidsCan fuels tens of thousands of children throughout NZ every school day, and we keep them warm in cosy jackets and solid shoes. They’re small things, but to kids in poverty they make a big difference. A principal told us about the difference KidsCan support has made to one student:
"He’s a superstar - but he didn’t want to put himself forward for the basketball team because he didn’t have any shoes. But I found him a pair of KidsCan shoes, he chucked them on and was ready to rock and roll. He then went straight through to trial for the basketball team and ended up being the Player of the Year!"
